Jersey City, NJ—New Jersey City University’s Business Development Incubator, an organization that offers entrepreneurs leasing space and business support specialist in Hudson County, has taken in a carefully screened group of media companies to receive exclusive aid in their endeavors to get media companies off the ground. Social Vibes Media, a woman-owned media company by former NJCU alumna, Vicky Llerena, happens to be one of the companies.
Llerena initially learned about the BDI during a visit to watch an NJCU performance , Little Women, at the West Side Theater. Llerena picked up a marketing brochure that outlined all the member benefits the BDI offers; immediately, she jumped on the opportunity to apply for membership.
“I knew this was for us. I began the application process the next day. I
was so excited to be a part of this community– The BDI offered all the support I would need. ” states Llerena.
Director of the BDI, Joseph Tetteh explains, “The U.S. Department of Commerce
Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant provides an opportunity for the
BDI to leverage its considerable assets, expertise and relationships with economic
development agencies to provide business development services to the
entrepreneurs and support the development of film, media and communication
industry in Hudson County.”
Llerena is taking this opportunity to allow her business to flourish by working with business experts at the BDI. Prior to launching her business, she worked at PR Newswire, Univision WXTV, and Hudson Media Group. A part-time adjunct professor, she has over eight years of experience in media and communications.
In 2014, she decided to step down from her corporate job and officially launch her business. Llerena is former NJCU graduate with a B.A. in Journalism (2008) and an M.A. in Political Science (2010).
